Yentes was the person who coined the term “Vitorial” and named the park. However, in the letter to Daniels and another to project supporters, Welcome Home Veterans AZ President Annie Remsburg acknowledged the group could not move forward because of funding. Operation Welcome Home is a 501c3 non-profit resource organization dedicated to helping veterans and their families overcome barriers to living their best life. Among other resources, we assist with employment and provide them with the knowledge and assistance needed to secure a fulfilling position in the civilian workforce. The Town Council is scheduled to meet Oct. 17 and will take up an item to terminate the town’s agreement and lease with the group for 5 acres of land just east of the town’s public safety building.
"After exhausting all fund-raising strategies given our resources, the board determined that dissolution was the only rational conclusion to our efforts." In a Sept. 25 letter to Daniels, the nonprofit announced it would dissolve. Yentes said this was a sudden decision made by the board at in September. Operation Welcome Home began grading work on the park land but stopped before finishing, according to a town document. Remsburg and Council Member Aimee Yentes, a one-time board member of the group before she was elected to council, could not be reached for comment.

Gilbert committed $899,000 to build infrastructure, but town spokeswoman Jen Harrison told The Arizona Republic that the town spent more than $1.66 million prepping the site.
It hosted welcome home celebrations for veterans, raised money for them and had educational programs for children. In Remsburg’s letter to Daniels, she said the group will transfer to the town plans, drawings and documents relating to park construction. It also plans to take down its fencing around the site by the end of October. The group planned to build the “Western Veterans Vitorial” on the land, which it hoped would be a regional draw, according to board members. The highlight was to be an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. It also would include an education and resource center for veterans plus other features for education, remembrance and reflection. Daniels wrote in an emailed statement that she was "saddened" the partnership had to be discontinued. "We will continuously find ways to serve our veterans and show gratitude for their service,” the statement said. Since ending the lease and partnership on Thursday, the town is now fully in charge of the land. Ending the agreement with the soon-to-be defunct nonprofit allows the town to take over the plot and decide what to do next.

In 2017, its net assets totaled $427,968, less than a quarter of what it needed to build the park, which was already behind schedule. Assets included a $100,000 grant the nonprofit received from the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services in 2017, Yentes said.
Yentes said she is grateful for the work "so many people" put into the park project and the organization more broadly to educate students, welcome veterans and bring "awareness and patriotism" to the community. We also provide a common meeting place at Mylan Park in Morgantown for veterans to congregate, share what’s on their minds, form bonds, and simply relax with other veterans who understand their trials and triumphs. Operation Welcome Home also educated thousands of schoolkids about "military appreciation and patriotism" and raised awareness about veteran issues, the organization wrote in its dissolution announcement to donors and volunteers. The land remains empty and after terminating its agreement with Operation Welcome Home in a unanimous vote on Thursday, Gilbert must decide how to proceed. The nonprofit and town entered a partnership in 2015with a lease and agreement to build the Welcome Home Veterans Park on 7.7 acres of vacant land across the street from Town Hall, at the southeast corner of Gilbert Road and Civic Center Drive.
