Meanwhile, dressed up as Dracula with a cheap black cape, Arash has gone to a disco costume party. Shirin , wearing skeleton makeup and Atti request Ashar for a pill. She convinces Ashar to take one of the pills.
Its style is clearly inspired by spaghetti Westerns like those of Sergio Leone, featuring a mysterious, lone, antihero with a vigilante streak. However, the genre is reimagined with a female lead, and is a hybrid spaghetti Western-vampire film. As a vampire film it serves as an homage to its legacy of predecessors especially the 1922 German Expressionist film Nosferatu. Echoes of the film are seen in the choice of shooting in black-and-white, the use of shadows, and the minimal dialogue. The film's dialogue is entirely in Persian, and the film blends elements of Iranian culture with the spaghetti Western-vampire imagery described above. Saeed comes across a strange young woman in a chador at night.

When the girl is pushing Arash home on the skateboard, the clicking of the wheels do not match the passage of the wheels over the sidewalk cracks. Director Ana Lily Amirpour, who bears a somewhat similar resemblance to Sheila Vand actually performed the skateboarding sequences in the film for the the long shots. Ashar drives away in the night with the Girl and Masuka on the co-driver's seat. He stops in the middle of nowhere and gets out of the car. He nervously walks in front of the car's lights. Finally, and in complete silence, he gets in again. The Girl puts on a cassette on.
She looks to be her employer, as Ashar is doing a little gardening. She looks like she has had a nose surgery job and an obnoxious brat. She is on her mobile phone speaking to somebody about going out. Arash sees a pair of earring and thinks of stealing them to pay for his father's bills.

It was chosen to show in the "Next" program at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. And then there is the vampire, known as Girl . The shadows are so pitch-black that she is able to stalk the streets in her full chador practically undetected. She hides almost completely in the liquidy black, revealing herself to her victims from across the wide expanse of vacant lots or abandoned parks.
We know absolutely nothing about The Girl, but there is a pattern...unlike women in Iran, she has a certain, albeit supernatural power, and she uses it to punish men who have bullied others and wallowed in vices. Even if I'm only reading into this, I thought this was liberating in the context of the culture that's old and rich but traditionally repressive against women. Back home, he takes a glass of water to his father, who tells him that he should die and leave him alone. Arash pets Masuka while the attache and its contents are by its side. Saeed is showing off his car in front of a prostitute called Atti (Mozhan MarnĂ²), who gets into his car.

The Girl says that they can't sit down in the middle of the street, but he could go to her home as she lives nearby, but Arash is felling so badly that he can't walk. The Girl pushes him on her skate and takes him to her home. Arash takes some hot soup to Hossein, but his father is rude and only wants his "medicine", that is, his drug dose.
There is a little boy wearing a ragged coat who is a witness to everything, an innocent bystander to the corrupt and horrifying events of Bad City going on right before his eyes. Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive" created a nocturnal dreamspace of love and old age, and music and survival, with two soul mates meeting up again and again throughout the endless abyss of time. Saeed and the Girl cross paths on a deserted street at night. He throws away his cigarette and speaks to her. He makes a sign with his head and takes the Girl to his apartment.
And it extends to the filmmaker’s own diasporic identity as an Iranian American filmmaker. With The Girl, too, Amirpour makes clear references to European culture and cinema. This scene hardly holds any narrative purpose. Instead, its significance lies in bringing the film into conversation with a canonical Western text, serving as a reminder for the audience of the classic vampire figure Dracula. In the shot, The Girl slowly rises, inch by inch, from the depths of the bath water—eerily reminiscent of Dracula slowly rising out of his coffin.
As Saeed approaches The Girl, she takes his finger into her mouth in a sexually suggestive manner. Ana Lily Amirpour’s black-and-white vampire noir film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night has garnered somewhat of a cult following. An Iranian Vampire Western, shot in black&white and with a killer soundtrack... It's a love story about two tortured souls in a desolate Iranian Ghost-town called 'Bad City', where a lonely vampire is stalking the towns most depraved denizens. The Girl , with her vampiric teeth and supernatural powers, subverts the image of the veiled woman as submissive, turning the victimhood suggested by the film’s title on its head. This girl walks alone at night with no fear; she is the one to be feared—a fact the viewer learns along with her first victim. A Girl Walks Home...was heavily influenced by Jim Jarmusch's aesthetic, like a love letter to this director. A vampire western with a touch of romance - something I haven't seen before. Let's see if this unusual combination worked... The last few years were great for vampire subgenre, reviving it with a few films that have became instant favorites and, in my opinion, deserve their place in film history.

We are usually left with a bloody and shallow horror piece devoid of any real sense of dread and that showcase the filming techniques employed and the environments used. If you like horror films or really anything unique and original that keeps you guessing, then this is a great piece of film that is a refreshing change of pace from most modern horror schlock out there. The characters we meet are archetypes, made strange when in service to Amirpour's unique vision. There is Arash , the kid with the vintage car who lives with his heroin-addicted father Hossein . Arash deals drugs, too, as well as taking odd jobs as a gardener on the isolated rich side of town, having a tense flirtation with a rich girl who calls him into her bedroom.
